Hotel Durant Renovation/Addition

Built in 1963, the Hotel Durant is a twenty-room lodge located in the heart of Aspen. At approx. 8,200 square feet, the existing CMU and precast concrete structure is undersized and outdated. The building also underperforms in thermal and energy efficiency. Given budgetary and city land use restrictions, the best solution for expansion is a complete remodel with a 4,300 s.f. addition to the structure that will maximize the constrained building site and update the building’s overall efficiency.
While room count has to remain the same, the proposed addition allows the suites to increase in size, from 200 s.f. to approx. 330 s.f. A large roof-top multi-purpose area and penthouse suite are set amongst an inviting green roof which allows these spaces to take full advantage of the incredible views of surrounding mountains.
